Beginners

This class is for all new sewers (and students intending on borrowing a sewing machine) so they can take other classes.  All beginners must take this class or have teacher approval prior to taking any beginning sewing or kids class at EQB. Machines are provided for students to use in class.  Fee includes supplies for class. This is the Beginning Sewing*, Young Sewers Club, basic sewing skills and/or Kids Camp Prerequisite class.*must be confident user of store sewing machine .

Go over the basics of sewing and the tools of the trade, other than the sewing machine. Selecting and reading a pattern, taking measurements, choosing fabrics, laying our patterns, reading pattern markings, cutting, basic construction and  finishing techniques will also be demonstrated.

Four 2 1/2 -hour Sessions

Prerequisite: “Machine Basics”

Learn how to put a basic garment together.  Choose a pattern that fits you properly and learn the various sewing techniques for garment construction.  From shopping for the right supplies to finished project, you will complete a simple garment by the last session.

Dear Beginners:
A successful start begins with your own comprehension of sewing machine usage. Please come knowing how to use your own or one of our classroom machines. “Machine Basics for Novices” is a great place to receive this start-up information on our “loaner” classroom machines.  In addition, all machines purchased at our store include thorough instruction and guide classes.  If you are in the market to purchase a sewing machine, please see one of our capable sewing machine consultants for the right sewing machine for you.

Learn to sew with knits to make your own one-of-a-kind T-shirt or yoga pant.  Learn basic construction and finishing techniques with knits, including variations to personalize your creations. Experience this fully on our Babylock sergers, one of which will be provided to share. Or if you have a Babylock self-threading serger, be sure to bring it along.
